Audiovox FPE3206DV - 32" LCD TV with built-in DVD player - widescreen - HDTV

An affordable choice for home theater, the 32-inch Audiovox FPE3206DV saves space with its detachable bottom-mounted speakers and a removable tilting base, which enables you to mount the set to a wall with optional VESA-compatible hardware. And it saves even more space by eliminating the needs for a DVD player component, thanks to the slot-loading DVD player integrated into the back of this set. In addition to playing standard DVD movie and CD audio discs, it's also compatible with playing DVD-R/RW and CD-R/RW discs as well as MP3 audio files and JPEG pictures. It also includes a three-way flash memory port that's compatible with Secure Digital, MMC, and Memory Stick media as well as a USB port for connecting a compatible digital audio player.

This set has a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner as well as an ATSC tuner for over-the-air HD reception. You can also view high-definition programming (1080i/720p/480p/480i) when connected to an optional receiver or cable/satellite set-top box via the component video inputs.

The FPE3206DV features Faroudja's Emmy award-winning DCDi (Directional Correlational Deinterlacing) technology, which helps to eliminate the jagginess found in non-HD video content. FaroudjaÕs unique DCDi algorithm identifies all the moving edges in a scene and adjusts the angle of interpolation at each pixel so that the interpolation always follows the edge instead of crossing it, eliminating staircasing or jagged edge artifacts.

This set also performs automatic 3:3/2:2 pulldown detection--a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture.

This set has a 1366 x 768-pixel resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio, 176-degree viewing angle, and a 1000:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.) You can also use this set as a PC monitor via the DVI connection, which can also be used to provide uncompressed digital video from compatible set-top boxes. Other features include picture-in-picture (PIP) capability, closed captioning, V-chip parental controls, and SRS surround sound. It provides the following connections:

  • Composite audio/video In: 1
  • S-Video In: 1
  • Component video In: 1
  • RF In: 1
  • PC VGA In: 1 (with PC audio mini-jack)
  • Headphone: 1

Tech Talk
Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.

What's in the Box

A home theater room shouldn't be set up as you normally would lay out a average den, it requires its own unique agenda if you hope to get that magical experience from each surround sound phenomenon you view and hear on your TV screen. Did you know that there are a handful of straight forward things you can do tonight to make the most of the audio and video of of your TV shows you are watching? The more of these that you can start right now... the bigger the superiority of the sound and picture of your existing system.

Number one: Set your room up as close as possible to the way a movie house is laid out. What do I mean? If you recall, all movie seats point toward the projector screen. There are no caddy corner or angled seats in a movie theater, are there? Have you thought about to reorganize your sofas and recliners to give you a perfect view of the TV?

Number two: Do not put your speakers on the floor! Did you know that the floor and carpeting will silence the quality of sound from your speakers. You would not believe how many people still leave their speakers on the floors! What can you do instead? Use speaker brackets or stick them on a bookshelf. In a perfect environment the speakers should be located just a few feet over your head. Just using this one suggestion will make a large difference.

Number Three: Your goal is to keep your front left and right satellites proportionally arranged on either side of your plasma TV. The center channel speakers should be placed either above or below your plasma. What about the rear speakers? The rear channel speakers should always be placed in the rear of your comfy chairs whether on the walls or in the ceiling. Do you have hard wood floors? Carpeting will add to the quality of your sound as well.

Number 4: Lighting. Think about this, the more light in the room... the more your video quality will be effected. Would you be interested in some ideas to combat this? You must be able to control the interior and the exterior lighting of the room. So first shut off all lights during your movie watching. Some remote controls can even close the lights automatically when the movie begins. Can you imagine that!

What can you do with exterior sunlight? Tyr using room darkening shades or heavy curtains that can be used to be closed over the windows while watching your favorite movie. If you do nothing else remember this... the darker your room the better. Some families even keep a flashlight handy to use for the bathroom breaks!

I told you that you don't have to spend any money to get a better experience from your current surround sound set up.

Why not try some of these home theater room suggestions the next time your family sits down to watch a movie? I believe you will notice a amazing difference in your home theater experience.
